“Showtime, a-holes“. – Star-Lord to his fellow Guardians, in the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It’s also a rally cry for the Marvel and DC films releasing this year, as most of the protagonists are actually huge jerks.

After the huge success of 2014’s The LEGO Movie, plans to spin-off a Batman film were immediately put into production. Will Arnett reprises his role as the caped crusader, with Zach Galifianakis as The Joker, Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred.

The tenth instalment in the X-Men franchise, and the final film in the Wolverine trilogy (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine). Hugh Jackman’s final outing as Wolverine saw him take a cut to his pay in order to give the film an R rating.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

James Gunn returns to direct the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy. The sequel introduces a few new members to the team of Guardians, including Mantis and Yondu. More notably, Groot is now Baby Groot, in an effort to sell more merchandise, no doubt.

If, like me, you came out of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice thinking one thing; Wonder Woman was boss, then lucky you! She’s finally getting her big screen debut with this origin film. Chris Pine plays Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman’s love interest.

Captain America: Civil War proved that Spider-Man in the hands of Marvel Studios is the best place for him. Now Tom Holland swings into his own film. Michael Keaton comes full circle, playing the villainous Vulture. Robert Downey Jr. also makes an appearance, as a sort of mentor to Spider-Man.

Did you know there was a second Thor film? Me neither. But his third outing sees an extremely impressive cast in the form of Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Cate Blanchett as Hela, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. Mark Ruffalo also reprises the role of Hulk to join Thor on a jolly boys outing.

In case the subtle ‘Dawn of Justice‘ tag on the end of the Batman v Superman wasn’t clear enough, DC are quickly setting up their Justice League film. Instead of solo outings beforehand and then the team up, like Marvel’s Avengers, DC are going to use the collaboration to introduce the characters first, and then we see them in their respective solo films. Let’s hope this one isn’t three hours long though.
