10 Films To Watch In August

The UK is treated to some more late releases this month, but we’re also getting a few films earlier than our American cousins. Here’s 10 films to check out this August.

Suicide Squad

August 5th
Directed by David Ayer.
Starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne, Karen Fukuhara.

Reviews have just landed for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, and it’s not looking good. That’s nil for three for DC’s cinematic universe, but if the divide between critics and fans is the same as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, die-hard fans will likely enjoy what they see.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

August 10th
Directed by Jake Szymanski.
Starring Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, Adam DeVine, Aubrey Plaza, Stephen Root.

Nerve

August 11th
Directed by Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman.
Starring Emma Roberts, Dave Franco.

Nerve’s plot is about as coherent as The Purge’s, but it’s all in the execution. As the trailer describes, Nerve is a game of truth or dare with no truths. Emma Robert and Dave Franco continue to take part in ever escalating challenges.

The Shallows

August 12th
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.
Starring Blake Lively.

The Shallows has already released overseas and has been described as doing what The Blair Witch Project did to camping, but with surfing, making Jaw’s look like a child’s film.

Pete’s Dragon

August 12th
Directed by David Lowery
Starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Oakes Fegley, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban, Oona Laurence, Robert Redford.

David Brent: Life on the Road

August 19th
Directed by Ricky Gervais.
Starring Ricky Gervais.

It’s Ricky Gervais.

Bad Moms

August 26th
Directed by Jon Lucas, Scott Moore.
Starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Annie Mumolo, Jay Hernandez, Jada Pinkett Smith, Christina Applegate.

The Purge: Election Year

August 26th
Directed by James DeMonaco.
Starring Frank Grillo, Elizabeth Mitchell, Mykelti Williamson.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

August 26th
Directed by Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone.
Starring Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows.

If you’re a fan of The Lonely Island and American comedy skits, you’ll be down to see this musical mockumentary.

War Dogs

August 26th
Directed by Todd Phllips.
Starring Jonah Hill, Miles Teller.

From the director of The Hangover trilogy comes what looks to be a mix between The Wolf of Wall Street, Pain & Gain and The Hangover. Starring a dangerously big Jonah Hill and Miles Teller, War Dogs appears to be a great end of August comedy.
